The Semiahmoo and first nation peoples were living in the area that we know as Surrey today for ~6000 years. The europeans settled close to the fraser river. Surrey was declared as a city in 1993. Surrey had a lot of forest that was cut down by settlers to make buildings. Surrey population now are mainly asians but were settled by europeans. To this day Surrey has highways connecting to big major cities such as Richmond, Vancouver and Langley.
